The Day of Saint Domnius, patron saint of Split, takes place on the 7th of May bringing together about 10 thousand pilgrims, believers and other friends of Split.

The set of festivities and manifestations that accompany this day are called ”Sudamja” and it starts few days before Saint Domnius Day and lasts till 15th of May. Every year ”Sudamja” has very rich content of various cultural, religious, sports and entertainment activities. On Saint Domnius Day the main celebration starts with the procession from Saint Domnius cathedral all the way through Riva and finishing on Doctor Franjo Tuđman square, where a Mass is then being held. From the early morning on this day the city is bursting with a variety of events such us concerts and different kind of performances. This is also a great opportunity to get some traditional souvenirs, from very popular wooden butterflies and similar toys for children to all kind of wooden utensils. In the afternoon the well known traditional tombola is organized, a famous, popular game that offers players the chance of winning some money. Celebration lasts till late evening hours with great music program.

This spring, same as every year, citizens of Split and its visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy in spectacular rowing race, 13th International rowing regatta ”Sveti Duje”, an event featuring eights from Croatian and international universities.

The competition consists of two parts, race of the university eights from Croatia and abroad, and Legends’ Race between the legends of Oxford, Cambridge and Split. The regatta has traditionally been taking place shortly before the St. Domnius Day, and it’s also named after the St. Domnius, patron saint of Split. This year the first part of the competition will take place on Saturday, May 04 at the racing course in Spinut where a large number of participating teams will test their strength. The best known names in university rowing, the Oxford and Cambridge Blue Boats will also be a part of this great race. Their rowers eagerly await the race in Split because it’s the only place in the world where you can see a rematch of the popular ”The Boat Race”, race on the river Thames which Oxford team won this year. Legends’ Race will take place on Sunday, May 05 in the city port where the rowing legends of Split will compete against the legends of Oxford and Cambridge.

There is no doubt that the university duel on the racing course in Spinut will be extremely interesting, and nothing less dynamic won’t be on the Riva with legends.
