Hajduk Split
Hajduk Split is a Croatian football club founded in 1911 and based in the city of Split. The club was founded in the old pub “U Fleků” in Prague, by a group of students from Split: Fabijan Kaliterna, Lucijan Stella, Ivan Šakić and Vjekoslav Ivanišević. After they watched match between local clubs Sparta and Slavia, they decided it was time their own town have a professional football club. The club was officially registered with the authorities on February 13, 1911. Their first opponent was “Calcio Spalato” and the result was 9:0 in favor of Hajduk.
Through its rich history Hajduk has won 18 national titles and 15 cups, and the biggest accomplishments in Europe are his three Champions League quarterfinals, and two semifinals, one in the UEFA Cup and one in the Cup Winners’ Cup.
About month ago on February 13, Hajduk celebrated its 105th birthday. Five years ago in 2011, big celebration was held in honor of Hajduk for 100 years of its existence. Hajduk’s most passionate supporters, established in year 1950 are called Torcida and they are the oldest organized supporters’ group in Europe.
Poljud stadium, also known as “Poljud beauty” is the place where Hajduk plays its home games, and this week we will have, not one, but two home games against our main rivals Dinamo Zagreb. First one is in the semifinal of the Croatian Cup, on Wednesday, 16th of March at 17:30 hours, and the second one is in the Championship, on Sunday, 20th of March at 15:00 hours. Match between these two clubs is also known as “Eternal Derby”.
